Welcome to the Hillgrove Health and Physical Education Department
Welcome to the Physical Education Department of Hillgrove High School. At Hillgrove, it is our goal to expose students to a variety of opportunities to enhance their health through our courses. We hope to foster an enjoyment for and understanding of how to obtain a high level of health and wellness. Below is a description of the courses offered by the PE department at Hillgrove.
Health and Personal Fitness
This course provides a direct and factual approach to health education that is practical, personal, and positive. Health topics include safety, drug education, nutrition, personal health, growth and development, building self-esteem and relationship skills. By acquiring the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to live a healthful life, students learn to take responsibility for their own health.This course provides a direct and factual approach to health education that is practical, personal, and positive. Health topics include safety, drug education, nutrition, personal health, growth and development building self-esteem and relationship skills. Activity Classes
These courses expose students to a variety of sports and recreational games. Students learn the skills necessary to participate in these activities and also learn to work together in teams. Courses offered include Team Sports, Lifetime Sports, and General Physical Education.
Weight Training
We offer three different weight training courses: Weight Training, Physical Conditioning, and Body Sculpting. These courses are designed to meet the needs of students who have experience lifting weights as well as students who have no experience lifting weights. In addition to lifting weights, Body Sculpting is a total body fitness course for girls that targets muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness.
Outdoor Education
This course is designed to promote an appreciation for the outdoors and provide students with a variety of experiences included but not limited to team building, mapping, hiking, backpacking, archery, first aid/CPR, gardening, knot tying, fishing, camping, and outdoor survival skills.
